Our good man, rman, was referring to the OtherOS function of non-slim model PS3's that allowed you to run Linux and all that shit.

Sony removed it in an update, and the hackers went ballistic.

The folks over at the PSX-Scene forums are reporting that over 2.2 million customers' names, addresses, phone numbers and credit/debit card information is up for grabs to the highest bidder, including the crucial three digit CVV2 numbers. According to the forum post, rumors are spreading through underground trading forums and on Twitter that the database is for sale, "a large section of the PSN database containing complete personal details along...are being offer up for sale."

The post explains how the hackers allegedly attempted to sell the details to Sony for an unknown amount but failed to get a reply, so instead they are trying to sell them to anyone with enough money. Kevin Stevens, a Security Researcher, has been following the story and tweeted earlier, "Supposedly the hackers selling the DB says it has: fname, lnam, address, zip, country, phone, email, password, dob, ccnum, CVV2, exp date", but added that "it is not a rumor, it was a conversation on a criminal forum."

Neowin has previously reported on the Playstation Network hack and the latest news, if authentic, is bound to be very alarming to millions of customers affected by the security breach. Sony confirmed the attack and the possibility of sensitive information being stolen on a blog post on their website and then urged its users to be aware of any email, telephone and postal scams that may ask users for sensitive information.

http://www.neowin.net/news/sony-online-entertainment-shuts-down-servers-due-to-unnamed-intrusion

It looks like another one of Sony's gaming businesses, Sony Online Entertainment, is being hit with some kind of unnamed "intrusion". The problem was apparently big enough for Sony Online to pull the plug on the company's servers today.

In a message posted earlier today on Sony Online's Station.com web site, it said that a decision was made to "temporarily" shut down its service. It added, "In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately." The site said that more info on this situation would be provided later on Monday.

Sony Online Entertainment is the massively multiplayer division of Sony. It develops and runs a number of MMO games including Everquest, Everquest 2, Star Wars Galaxies, Planetside, Free Realms and most recently DC Universe Online. A few weeks ago Sony Online announced plans to cut a large number of its employees along with shutting down three of its five internal game development studios.

Of course, Sony's Playstation console unit has been dealing with its own online problems recently. Its Playstation Network fell victim to a cyber attack that caused Sony to shut down the online console service on April 20. The service is still down, but over the weekend Sony pledged to bring back at least some of the Playstation Network's features later this week, as well as offering some compensation to PS3 owners for the downtime. It's currently unclear if Sony Online's shut down of its services are related in any way to the Playstation Network's current issues.

WHERE!?

ALL I WATCH IS NCIS!

E3 happens once a year! C: It's gonna be June 7-9! You can watch live streams of press conferences (Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, EA, Ubisoft, etc.) online, or watch it through *shudder* G4. How is G4 still on air?

If you can't watch a stream, video-game related sites like Joystiq always blog during them!
