Today Hiroshi Yamauchi passed away at age 85. Hiroshi was president of Nintendo from 1949 until 2002, when current president Satoru Iwata took over the position. Hiroshi oversaw the transition of Nintendo from a small Japanese card making company to the global powerhouse that it is today. During the height of success with the Wii, he was the richest man in Japan, and at the time of this death he was the largest share holder at Nintendo.
Hiroshi was somewhat famous for his displeasure with the trends in the gaming industry, and had a very old school mentality. He was known to dislike the push for more powerful hardware, and wanted to keep games simple, addictive, and fun.
After the news of his death was announced, Nintendo stated they would not be posting on their social media sites for the day in respect of their former president.
